My family has had past and present experience with print disabilities, particularly dyslexia. My grandfather, Leo Corey, suffers from dyslexia. In the 1930’s when he was in school, however, such learning disabilities went undiagnosed. It was only after my sister, Skye, was diagnosed with dyslexia, did my grandfather admit even to his own family that he has had trouble reading his entire life. My sister is currently a member of RFB&D, which provides her school textbooks (or any other book in RFB&D’s library that she desires) on CD. She currently uses RFB&D for her history and science textbooks. This enables her to finish her homework more quickly and efficiently, alleviating some of the pressure she faces. RFB&D also has a new program that can download books onto an MP3 player, free of charge for members. This summer my sister plans on using this new software to read the Twilight series, which all of her friends have been reading. RFB&D’s recorded books allow her to just enjoy the gift of reading. She will depend on RFB&D and its services through college and beyond.
Having witnessed firsthand the stress and difficulties a dyslexic child can have with learning, I realize the impact of this organization. I have been volunteering for almost two years at the New York Unit and learned the process by which books are recorded. This March, I visited the RFB&D National Headquarters in Princeton, New Jersey to discuss plans for my Read-A-Thon. I was fortunate enough to meet the President and CEO of RFB&D, John Kelly. I would like to thank Margaret Guellich, who welcomed me to the National Headquarters and is assisting me with my Read-A-Thon this year. Last year, my first Read-A-Thon in May 2008, was a great success, and this year, with the help from other Collegiate students, it should be an even bigger success. I have recently formed a club at my school to support RFB&D and their efforts; we have already put on a bake sale to raise money for the 2009 Read-A-Thon. To learn more about RFB&D, please go to the Links page of this website.
Please consider making a donation to my Read-A-Thon and feel free to pass this website onto your family, friends, or anyone you know. No amount is too small or too large; every dollar will help. You can either donate by using PayPal, by sending me a check, or by giving me your donation in person. More information about donations can be found on the Donations page of this website. Your contribution will be greatly appreciated both by RFB&D as well as all of its members.
Also, please feel free to sign the guestbook!

Thank you,
Levi
